The History of Waist Beads dates back to antiquity. Many believe that the history begins in ancient Egypt where they were called ‘girdles’. Worn as traditional practice by girls and women across Africa as a status symbol, they are and have been worn as a celebration of femininity, spirituality, sexuality, sensuality, fertility, healing, body shaping, protection and wealth.
Our limited edition Tiger's Eye Waist Beads are crafted by women artisans in Ghana, using earth toned glass beads, and genuine Tiger's eye gemstones, traditionally recognised as a stone of confidence and courage and a protective amulet against negative energy. The colours were selected to compliment the tones of our bespoke Ankh embroidery and darker nude tones of our silks pieces.
